I've been looking for an answer for a while and have come up empty handed..

Is there any way to cause a link to open in a new tab as opposed to a new window or the same window? IOW, is there something similar to target=_blank

I think I've seen it done but I can't be certain.

I'd really appreciate any ideas on if this can be done easily.

Thanks

This is browser-specific behavior, and a user-specific option at that. As far as I know there is no html to force any one way to show the new page-load, and I for one would not appreciate it if there were.

Tedster. Thanks for the reply.

What I'm actually trying to do is to automate my daily reading. There are about 15 websites I check out every day. True, I can use the favorites, but it is a little bit of a pain to mouse over to each item.

I did put all of the links I follow into a folder and then but that on my desktop. I can simply double click each link and it will open in one of my windows.

I'm thinking I might just play around with some PHP or javascript and put a page on my personal webspage where I can click one button and it will start opening the pages I read.

Not a major issue, just trying to make things a little more efficient in the morning.

thanks

cg.

In Firefox, you can specify an entire folder of bookmarks to be your homepage, or if 15 is too many, you can load successive sets manually using the "Open All in Tabs" option.

In Firefox, type "about:config" into the location bar. Look for the configuration setting for "browser.tabs.opentabfor.windowopen" and set it to true. You may also want to experiment with the many other browser.tab options that you see in about:config.

There are also several Firefox add-ons that will help you configure new tab or new window behavior.

Or you can switch to Opera - the new tab behavior is one of many (and I do mean MANY) user configuration options. When I am on a computer without my Opera configurations available, I find that my productivity feels like it's crawling along as I wrestle with whatever browser is available.
