I don't think I have done anything but when I use Internet Explorer and click on a site when I bring it up again using a search engine, it is not purple.

I don't know what to make of this. I looked at Tools>Internet Options>General>Appearance>Colors and use Windows Colors is checked.

I think this means that a page clicked on should be appering purple.

Can someone possibly help me with this?

The color of links, visited or not, is defined by the site and not in the client (browser). By default, a visited link will be purple but only if the site has neglected to set styles for the links, which is rarely the case these days.

While that's all true, I believe that gouri is describing the color of the visited links on search engine results pages. The major engines all let visited links default to the user's browser setting. You can also set many browsers to override the websites rules with a user style sheet.

Each browser has its own default for how long a historical visited status stays active, and most allow the user to change that time period. IE is not the friendliest when it comes to user settings, but I can only assume that something has changed in the browser that is hard to locate.
