What causes you to press the back button out of a site?

What causes you to press the back button out of a site on your first visit?

Mine:
1) Slow loading pages. If it's slow on dsl, I'm gone.
2) People who over ride underlining of links.
3) Popups, Popunders, excessively annoying flash ads.
4) Stuff flying around the screen and embedded video.
5) Mass visual noise. Spammy menu systems with 10billion links so you have to dig to find the content.

Most of those can be dealt with by modern browsers with controls.

You're right, but I'm not a spider ;) I won't spend five minutes to find the sitemap first. If I'd prevent losing a single interested user, I'd make the site bull proof. Even a index.html redirecting me to the sitemap is appreciated, but not a 403-hehe-wrong-way. But perhaps it's really too much work.

I was assembling a list of resources, and a non-profit site popped up a little "thank you" box when I right-clicked on the text, and didn't let me copy. Arrgh! Disseminating information is what it's FOR, you fools!

Our state department of education site won't let you copy anything, either. And the state mental health department site doesn't have a single line of contact information anywhere.

If this wasn't my job, I'd sure not waste time on a lot of these sites...

Biggest one for me is linking to a .pdf or .doc file without telling you first.

Second one would probably be whole site is made in flash and you have to watch their stupid intro when you hit the back button because they don't have it as a separate page.

Third is playing music... it's just unprofessional and stupid nowadays.

Fourth is an insane amount of pop-ups.

Fifth too many broken links.

...which means you're not a fan of CSS then? Having witnessed my own site looking a bit odd (crap) on people's PC's where they have the IE text size set at Largest or Smallest (but no idea how it got there), I pretty much swear by CSS.

I want the site to look how we designed and set-it-out.

Umm... 1em, anyone? It's CSS, it's my browser's default text size, whatever that may be. If people would just use 1em, I wouldn't have to know all the commands in my browser to re-size the page on the fly.
