Currency and language page settings on corporate server networks

Is there large scale mis-configuration?

We have a non US based web site that defaults language and currency to the users standard browser configuration , which was a preferred option at the time over say , IP based settings.

The argument was that the viewer would prefer their "individual " preferences set like this. Some might argue that IP based settings would be better.

However , we have become alarmed at the number of corporate customers that are working on servers not configured as standard in their country , and this has meant that they would be viewing results in a "incorrect currency". The result of this would mean lower conversions.

How common is this ? Has anyone run into this on a large scale ?

That does happen more than you might expect. That's why you'll want to give the user as much freedom to adjust the settings to their liking as possible. It's fine to make a guess at the preferred settings, but make it dead-simple to switch to something else.
