hi,

i have to test the look of some websites in older netscape versions, so i installed netscape 4.08, 4.51, 4.75, 4.8 ..
the installation was no problem, (i use winXP prof. version 2002) but when i open a communicator window and submit an url no data is transferred! nothing happens..the status bar always says "document:done" but the window stays blank!

i really don't know why i have these problems..there is not even an error message!? just nothing.. :)

i've also installed netscape 6.2 and 7.0, with them there are NO problems, everything's fine!

i'm behind a firewall, so i manually configured the proxy settings, but this doesn't change anything.
with the newer ones (6.2 + 7.0) i don't have to enter proxy settings, everything's perfect there...

well, if s.o. could help me i would be glad :)))))
thanx + bye,
ju

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, ju777

Have I understood you correctly that ALL your new installs of Netscape 4.x are behaving this way?

hi tedster,

yep, all installs of netscape behaved this way.
but now i've solved the problem..you'll never guess why it had occured.. :)
it was because of a bug in GetRight, it GetRight isn't properly deinstalled or sth. like that it blocks all the data transfer in netscape.
there's a bugfix file with GetRight (fix_nscp.reg),
now everything works perfect again :-)

Thanks for the report. I would NEVER have thought to ask you if you had a download manager like GetRight installed, but now that you've explained it, I will remember the possibility.

For anyone who is struggling with a similar problem, several bug fixes are available in GetRight's online support [headlightinc.com]. This Netscape 4 bug is addressed at the very bottom of the page.
