Free Editable Webpage?

Basically I'm designing a website for a friend but they are not very internet savvy.

The site is pretty much finished but they want a page which is essentially the 'latest stock list' so I need a system where they can login and change the content of a single page.

It doesn't have to be anything special since I'm just linking to this external webpage.

Can anyone recommend a free online system which does this?

PoppyDog.com [poppydog.com] i used once which provides some online tools like login signup stuff.

Bravenet.com [bravenet.com] big list of tools that you are looking for, comes with ads tho.

The alternative if your feeling adventurous is PHP MySQL.

A blog? A CMS? Those would let you control the design and let the user edit an online form.

I've found a few online website builders but they have these headers which I can't remove.

I literally just want a blank white page where I can get my friend to post a list of stuff.

Bravenet let you use HTML and come with some guestbooks. So you can post stuff. If you really want it to look good ur last resuly would be PHP MySQL

I have used Bravenet for a couple of small sites and they seem OK. The ads can be a bit intrusive but I have seen "free" services that are a lot worse.

This is one of the few occasions when I would suggest using the Save As HTML option in Word. Much easier for them to use an editor that they are accustomed to and then upload the file.

I've not tried this myself, but it kinda sounds like the sort of thing you are after... (there are others that offer similar editing capabilities I believe)

SnippetMaster is a free content editing tool for website owners or designers who want a very easy, quick, and visual way to edit pre-defined areas on any web page, through any browser, without messing up the rest of the web page. (SnippetMaster can also edit entire webpages and regular text files, too.)

LokiCMS is free, really small and easy to use (and install - no SQL needed). that could be good for just such a job.

i've never used it for a 'blended' CMS/static site, but i'm sure that's do-able

I have used several "free" hosts over the years for small hobby sites but none would support anything except static html. On the other hand I have never bothered to explicitly look for one that would support a CMS.

Is paying for hosting really a show stopper?

The problem with free hosts and WYSIWYGs is directories won't accept the first and there is too much code bloat and deprecated code on the 2nd plus people without SEO knowledge don't understand you shouldn't use numbers for file names (which these programs put out by default), etc., etc. etc. all of which affects ranking in search engines.

I usually point out the above and they quickly let me put up the page instead.

But that's not what the OP was asking about. If a 3rd party wants to update some pages themselves then a WYSIWYG, CMS or similar is exactly what would meet their needs. Most any halfway decent developer could set the output to match the rest of the site design/layout/naming architecture. You just throw up a template with an editable area that can use a web or software interface for the updates.
