Ive got a site in mind where the draw would be that people upload a picture & vote on other peoples pics. Everyweek the pic with the most votes would receive a free item of somekind.
I also want them to be able to post comments on the individual pics & have the pics searchable through different criteria; guys, gals, funny, gross, etc...
Affiliate/adsense links to be placed throughout ;)
What would be the best platform to base something like this on?
Im thinking it could be done in blog format with wordpress, with every pic being submitted then added as a post by the admin (me). That way they could be tagged, commented on & rated easily.
But WP is the only tool im really familiar with, so doing some research into what other options are available.
Ideally though the pics would be uploaded automatically, with the user supplying the relevant tags by ticking boxes or something.
Suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

It sounds like a typical content-sharing website to me and we built up a similar website before for people to recommend anything interesting them, like hobbies, films, books, musics, etc. It features category, vote, tags, etc. It was based on an in-house develope web application framework, but for some reason my companies gave up the project.

I think LAMP would be a nice choice for your project, Linux+Apache+PHP+MySQL.

It is ok to use mac to do development work, but when you need to host your website and bring it online you probaly need a Linux or Windows server.Honestly, I did not see too many Mac server hosting providers around.

Could I do this in a modified blog format? I would rather have people be able to upload their own pictures though, rather then have them send it to me so that I have to upload them manually...

Any recommendations for a script I could use to accomplish this?
