Newly opened tab able to redirect starting page tab (only tabs)

Using _blank - if target page opened in new tab, start page changes too

I don't know how they are able to do this but I do not like it one bit.

I have tested this in IE and FF. If either of them open a new window tab from my referring link, the target site redirects the starting page's tab as it loads the newly opened tab.

When I open a new window instead of a tab, it does not happen to the starting page in either browser.

The outgoing link looks like this (php):

www.domain.com/?user=username

I would like to have any solutions to stop this from happening but i don't even know where to start.

Could this be a new browser vulnerability?

Maybe include something in the headers that doesn't allow redirects?

Help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank's for the advice

It's your browser (aka User Agent), take control of it :)

For Firefox (and Netscape) try the add-on called Tab Mix Plus [google.com]

For IE... well... just stop using it... its cr@p

But all of the users that go to the site will have the same problem. I want to disable it so it does not happen to anyone.

You can't

Browsers are also known as User Agents simply because they belong to the user

The best you can do is present your content in a standards-compliant manner and include prompts/messages/etc that suggest (to a user) that there is a 'cool trick' to getting the most out of your site
