For those of you considering HTML Guardian to encrypt and password protect you web pages - check it carefully before you buy.

I tried it and it seemed to be working, but I did not publish my site to my hosting server. I bought the product and ran into problems. I use AllWebMenus to create menus on my sites. It produces javascript with menus that drop down and scroll down the page. I tried a number of settings with HTML Guardian and could not get it to successfully protect a folder on my site. It would hang. Their support advised me to include tags that would cause it to skip over the javascript. That didn't change the result. It still hung. Then they had me insert tags that would start and stop encryption, avoiding the javascript. It finally ran to conclusion and I thought I was home free. I published the site and was unpleasantly surprised to learn that the password protection was only working on one page in the folder that was supposed to be protected. The other pages would come up without any prompt for a password.

At this point I finally gave up, concluding that the product simply would not work as advertised for my site. Their policy is such that once you buy the product and they send you a validation key, there will be no refunds whether it works or not.

I would strongly recommend against anyone buying this product before verifying with 100% certainty that it will work in their environment.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com] tukats. Sounds like you've had a tough time of things.

My only comment is to check your records for how you paid for the product (most likely a credit card or through paypal) and then to phone your card company or paypal to dispute (charge back) the payment on the grounds that the services promised were not rendered and/or product was defective upon delivery and retailer refused to remedy it. As the payment was taken as 'cardholder not present' it should easy.

As for the legal position you would need to ask a lawyer local to you. In many countries it is illegal to sell defective products or to make false claims in advertising.

hmmm, sorry for your trouble, ...

however i think you need to be better informed before you use methods of preventing your website being copied - because [long story short], it is basically impossible to do ... but in attempting to do so you may adversely affect search engines ability to include your site in their index!
