The applet will be used across lots of pages, so needs to read its content in from an external file to make updates easier - most of what I've seen so far require you to add your text content to the actual HTML, which would be a pain with around twenty pages to update frequently.
Other things on the wishlist include ability to define background colour, border colour, applet size, font face/size/colour and inclusion of urls which can be targetted to a desired part of the frameset.
OpenCube's fadet applet would be perfect, but I can't justify the $99 registration fee for a site which isn't commercial and we keep on with for the sheer hell of it.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

We've used an existing applet and simply included it inside another .js file. All the pages can point to this single .js file meaning that by editing it, all pages are updated, if that makes sense.
Goes to prove once again that the most difficult problems are resolved by the most simple measures.
