Animations faster than around 12fps?

How on Earth can I allow animations in the browser to run faster than the completely arbitrary limit of 12 fps for GIF animations?

I've tried converting my GIF animation (or still frames) to flash, but every single shareware program has a flaw (such as a flicker at the end, cutting the first frame out, or non-opaqueness of background colour).

The other option is to use a codec to save out as AVI, but either these turn out massive files, or most users don't support the right codecs.

I'm at my tethers end, surely there's got to be SOME way to do this? I'd like 50/60fps, but even 25/30fps would be okay. Perhaps there's a way to trick the browsers into running animated GIFs faster somehow?

No. Pretty simple answer. You don't have any control over it, since it's different between viewers even, as far as I know (like firefox gif viewer renders much quicker than IEs gifs). You should use flash. GIFs use up tons of space, and it would take like three times as much space to get a refresh rate you desire; 3 times of a size which is already waay to large.

If one of the shareware programs you're using to convert drops the first frame of the animation, you might just create a new animated gif file with an extra first frame.
