Are header tags on/in a link acceptable? Will this negate the effect of the header tags or will search engines see it the same?

For clarification:

Example code:

<h2><a href="link to page">Title of page</a></h2>

Will the fact that it is a link effect it being a header? Thanks!

I never heard it being or causing a penalty, but the better place to post this question may be in the Link Development Forum [webmasterworld.com] or one of the Search Engine Forums. But personally, I do it, just do not abuse it. in other words, do it logically.

Yeah I would agree with Marshall, as per your example with the link inside the header element, it should be fine.

Are header tags on/in a link acceptable?

But not the other way round - invalid markup! ;)

Quite right.
You actually have a link within a header. Correct
