How does one do this?

I have seen some websites have a small icon, sometimes their logo, right before their url in the browser address bar at the top of the screen.

When I put any of my sites address it just has the default IE logo.

I'm not sure of the correct terminology, but how does one go about putting this little icon next to your website urls?

Thanks in advance.

Create a .ico-format graphics file using one of the many on-line or freeware icon-makers, name it "favicon.ico" and save it to the root directory of your site.

The better icon makers will allow you to create the image in multiple sizes -- all stored in one file: 16x16, 32x32, and 64x64. The small image is used in IE, Mozilla, and other browsers. The larger icons are used in "folder views" and on the desktop in Windows, depending on your large/small icon setting.

For more info, search for "favicon" or "favicons".
