Yahoo homepage URL .what is this (?rs=1)

Yahoo is my homepage on my computer for years and and it opens like this [yahoo.com...] ,in the address bar.All my friends have Yahoo as their homepage too, but this (?rs=1)does not show up in their address bar,after.com/.What is this?rs=1. I apologize if I have posted in the wrong section , any help would be deeply appreciated.

It doesn't seem to make a difference on any of my browsers whether I'm logged into my account or not. At one time that variable may have meant something. You could use the URI without the variable and see the same page now.
