I just installed IE7, and when i surf the pages, the text look very blur.... compared with when I surf using Firefox. Isn't this a good reason for the masses to migrate from IE to FF? Is Microsoft digging their own grave in the browser world? I certainly think so.

Did you select the ClearType option for LCD displays when you installed IE7? If so, are you actually using a flat panel?

As long as you selected the appropriate option for the display you actually use, IE7 should be just as clear as any other browser.

This reply posted with Firefox, but just trying to be fair, here... :)

No, I'm not using LCD monitor. I'm using a Flat Screen CRT monitor.

Also, I'd like to add to my first post "What can we, as web publishers do in the mean time to address the blur text in IE7 so that the readers don't need to strain their eyes?"

In that case, make sure you DID NOT enable ClearType when you installed IE7.

What I'm saying is that IE7 looks just fine to me, on either CRT or LCD, as long as the correct ClearType option is selected...

I wasn't prompted for any options when installing IE7. So I didn't choose anything. How do I ensure that I've installed the correct clear type?

Hi Jim,

I managed to uncheck the "Always use cleart type for *HTML" in the Internet Options. Now the text looks fine. Thanks for the tip.

The installer should have prompted you, or you should have gotten a "setup wizard" on first use, asking about this and other settings.

The manual configuration is accessible at:

Start->Control Panel->Display->Appearance->Effects->Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts

Select "Standard" or uncheck the box, whichever gives you the best results.

I'm sure many users have the wrong setting here, but as Webmasters there's not much we can do about it.

Go to Tools/options/advanced, and uncheck Always Use Cleartype.

IE7 ignores the systemwide settings, and uses that value only.
