What do you want in Internet Explorer 8?

It's about two years away but we're ready for it now!

Internet Explorer 8 is quietly already under construction and should be due out in about two years from now. What do you think is a must have for IE8?

For starters I elect application/xhtml+xml mime and focus pseudo-element support (of course "enabled" on all elements).

How about a self-destruct button? ;)

  • Refactoring away of the concept of hasLayout
  • ::before and ::after pseudoelements
  • rgba colours
  • xhtml support
  • A drive for much better DOM compatibility

    1) actually works when available for public release
    2) able to co-exist with prior versions of IE on the same box (so you can see how a site looks like in different versions without havinbg to fire up other computers)
    3) easy to uninstall

    Speed. It's still too slow.

    Tabs that don't take 2 seconds to load (sometimes longer--3 gigs of ram) a new blank page tab.

    Put the refresh button back where it was, next to the forward and back buttons.

    A 'picture toolbar' for all video content to allow you to easily download it. I was trying to get something starting with mms:// and ending in .wmv from the BBC to show in a slideshow and couldn't find a way to save it to disk.

    theBear: Gecko is the rendering engine using in Mozilla products. A rendering engine is the core of the browser that deals with getting the web page onto the screen.
