From the IE Blog: 12th Jan 2007
According to WebSideStory (the company we use to measure browser usage), as of this week, over 25% of all visitors to websites in the US were using IE7, making IE7 the second most used browser after IE6. We expect these numbers to continue to rise as we complete our final localized versions, scale up AU distribution, and with the consumer availability of Windows Vista on January 30, 2007.

The reported figures put it ahead of FF already, so the Auto Update (AU) roll out is doing it's job - these figures and the take up rate, if true, is unprecedented as far as I can tell.

a non-tech (wouldn't know their blue e from their browser, we just use the internet), business I visited earlier this week wondered what I was saying when I commented that they had IE7 already.. their reply..

"what, has something changed?"

i think further study of the numbers show that all of ie7 came at the expense of ie6 (due to the nefarious "security update").
overall ie adoption AND usage is down and ff adoption AND usage is up during the period of the study.
