Internet Explorer Freezing Up When Loading Pages

My Internet Exlorer browser freezes whenever I open it. Even if I'm lucky and it opens, it freezes after browsing just a few sites. Seems like it only happens when the browser is loading the page.

I ran AdAware and removed everything it suggested but that didnt fix the problem. I also ran the repair tool, and reinstalled it. Any other ideas besides switching browsers? I'm a web developer so I need to be able to view websites in IE.

I have Windows XP Professional SP1.

Thanks.

Is this IE7? If so, try running it without any add-ons:

Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Internet Explorer (No add-ons)

No, IE6 and I dont see that option on my computer. I can't find a version of IE7 that will run on XP SP1 and I can't get SP2 because that download page requires the IE6 browser. Here's links to what I already tried:

Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Edit the registry and install Internet Explorer 6

Get Internet Explorer 7

Any other suggestions? My guess is there's some kind of software on my computer that's causing this which I need to remove but I don't know what it is and AdAware wasn't able to detect it.

I was actually able to fire up IE6 and go to:
Microsoft Windows Update
[update.microsoft.com...]

To get SP2, but when I click the "Express" install button I get the following error message (OF COURSE):
