IE7 - suddenly going crazy

Works fine on all my other machines

I am now seeing only image errors and weird code on almost all of my pages. Usability is horrible.

I tried my laptop, and my business desktop...both work perfectly with IE7. This machine has worked great in months past with IE7.

I just re-installed it and same thing. What gives?

IE7 is supposed to come out with Vista and Vista is sorely late (well as far as all the corporates trying to make another quick buck by selling cheap Dells are concerned). IE is directly tied to the OS and the OS is now "officially" out for corporates (even though corporates are even less likely then home users to upgrade first). IE7 is a rushed product. If Vista's deadline doesn't bring that to light then just take two seconds to look at it's new GUI; it's worst then Konqueror's GUI!

What?! IE7 was designed and released initially for XP. They knew Vista would come later and have a slower adoption.

These are pages you control? What errors exactly?

You re-installed IE7? Did you install on top of the problem version or did you restore a prior Windows backup and install from there?

I have a very major issue. My PC is not displaying websites in my browsers correctly. I have tried both IE and FF and neither is working. For many/most sites it is. But for my site, as well as some other sites I visit daily, the code is all messed up, images dont show up correctly or not at all, and it is not fully functional.

My laptop works fine. My other desktop works fine. Did I get a virus or something? What gives?

If anyone could help!

The GUI is fantastic. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it bad.

What are the errors? Do you have a personal firewall installed?

What are the specific errors?

Have you tried turning off/disabling your firewall?

I turned off the firewall...restarted...still missing images. Still showing the site skeleton instead of the pretty design and images. Still getting a lot of "done, but with errors" in the status bar. Still getting weird formatting.

Again, this change was all of the sudden one day. All my other machines are working fine. The only thing I can think of that I've changed since this is switched to DVI from VGA cords. I dont think this should effect my internet browser! Everything else with the computer is fine except the internet.

Remember, both IE and FF arent working. I reinstalled the latest version of each, still no changes.

Help please! I'm a webmaster with no internet browsing abilities right now! (i'm typing this from my teeny laptop)

Have you checked your host file? Maybe some of the domains are being redirected.

Host file can be found here:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc (or wherever you installed windows)

It has no extension and can be opened with any text editor. (notepad)

Is there anything weird in there?

Next step would probably be to run some spyware tools and see what they come up with.

What firewall do you use?

What proxy do you use (if any)?

What A/V do you use? Norton?

Turn them all off and try.
