Forum Moderators: open
and it helped me out some. I used the encrypted url to encrypt the html code. I agree that the right click block sucks.
Here he the problem I have now..
What I am doing is selling downloadable wmv files.. I have embedded them into the url so they can not be saved and distributed but I found that you can right click on the video and select "properties" and that will show you the absolute http path to the video file..
Does anyone know a way to hide that?
thanks guys
mike
If I want a video that someone is trying to make a pain in the rear to save to my computer I open up IE and copy it from the cache. This creates a variety of issues that I won't go in to right now though.
At best you can deter less ambitious people with less technical skill but if someone really wants anything that you served as clientside then they will figure out a way to get it.
You can slightly encrypt JavaScript (I've seen it done before). However it is obnoxious and generally goes against (I feel) the nature of forums such as these and coding practices that create a healthy competitive market.
If you are dead set on blocking content however perhaps you could find a way to combine CAPTCHA with Flash. This would probably require some fancy coding in Flash and I have no clue if it would be supported or not. The good news is that Flash certainly supports video and is installed on pretty much every computer connected to the internet.
Either way best of luck in the fight to protect your content! Everyone needs to eat! MMM food!
