Soft Focused Text in IE7

Man, it just looks fuzzy...

I've held off getting IE7 until today because... Well... I just don't use it.

Aside from the awful interface, and the locked in place screen real-estate (mann, it's WORSE than IE6 in a lot of ways), the biggest single complaint I have is how it's rendering text.

All text has taken on a "soft focus" look to it. Nothing is crisp.

Is it just me that's noticed this? What gives? Is there some setting I can change to take away the blur?

If this is the way it's looking for everyone, then the eyestrain factor is going to go way up. It's bleeding headache inducing.

Hi grelmar,

Installing IE7 turns ClearType on. See [blogs.msdn.com...] for more info.

You can turn it off in Internet Options -> Advanced -> Multimedia: Always use ClearType for HTML

BTW: fully agree about the interface :)

Whew, thanks.

Why the heck would they make cleartype the default? It's bloody ugly.

Are you running a CRT? It looks a lot better on LCDs.

Mind you, I prefer it on CRTs as well. But then I also prefer Apple's ATSUI tech which if you don't like Cleartype you'll definitely hate :)

You can adjust your Clear Type settings directly from the Ms website.
