Does anyone know if there is a Safari for Windows that is good for testing?

Thanks

I haven't heard of one, and there's no mention of it on Apple's site.

[apple.com...]

Thanks for responding. My searches have been fruitless.

Here's an approach that some people use. Safari draws on the rendering engine of another open source browser, Konqueror [konqueror.org].

Now Konqueror runs on a Linux operating system, so how can that help a Windows user? There is a version of Linux called Knoppix [www-128.ibm.com] that runs from a bootable CD.

There was an attempt to port Webkit (the rendering engine for Safari) over to Windows for using in a browser called ‘Swift’, but the site seems to be down at the moment.

Konqueror isn’t exactly the same as Safari but it's the cheapest option. My alternative would be to pick up an old iMac or (preferably) Mac Mini on the cheap, and just test in thet real thing. For what it’s worth the only problems I ever have with Safari tend to be confined to Safari 1.0 (and 1.2, but no-one uses that). Safari 1.3 and up seem to be very standards compliant, so unless you’re doing complicated scripting you should be fine.

Edit: completely forgot to mention the various ’browser cam’ sites out there. Some of them just do image capture, but the bigger ones will let you log onto a Mac over the ’net and view stuff in real time - for a fee of course :)

I use [browsershots.org...] for safari and Konqueror testing.

If I were Apple, I would work toward such making such a tool widely available. It can only help increase awareness and "mindshare" for both Apple and Safari among Windows webmasters. I think they've been missing a substantial guerilla marketing tool here.
