Hello all. Thanks in advance for any possible help. I am a newbie and have received a psd template from a friend who doesn’t really know what it is.
I can edit the template in Photoshop with no problem.
My question is how do I upload this.
Do I upload this? (the psd file?)
I tried putting it into dream weaver it won’t open.
When I have the site up do I have to put the pages im working on back into Photoshop to edit the text?
I really don’t understand can someone help me. Thank you very much!

Welcome to the forum.

Why are you trying to load a psd file up to the web? Standard web formats for images are gif, jpg, and png. And if up you simply want it on the server for download, many viewers will not have the software to look at it.

Hello Red59,

It sounds like you've received half a template. Often times, if ones buys a template from one of the many oneline template stores, it comes with the HTML files with all of the images, and usually it will come with the PSD files (Photoshop) so that you can manipulate the images if you want to, (maybe changing the logo to your own, etc).

But the PSD file in itself won't really help you build the website. That only allows you to create and/or manipulate the graphics to insert into your HTML pages.

I hope this helps-

pat

ps--you can add text to the photoshop file, but in general you want the text to be in the HTML code, so you can change it at will, and so taht search engines can pick it up. Use text in the graphics for logos and such, but not the general text.

I have a feeling I may be missing something here. psd is the native Photoshop image format. As you have Photoshop, turning the file into a gif, jpg, or png is not difficult - follow the help directions. You may also find ImageReady handy. Personally, I would use Fireworks if you have it.

Once the file is in gif, jpg, or png (you should almost never use bmp) format, you will probably want to incorporate it into HTML so that you have a web page.
