Hi,

Has anyone ever heard of a <marquee> tag? If so....can you tell me what it is and what it does....and if possible, can you show me an example.

Someone asked me and i have no idea.

Ack no! Stay Away!

All it does is scroll text across the page, to be classed along side BLINK, Frames and animated GIFs

Hi Webboy,

<marquee> is an IE specific tag that horizontally scrolls the text between the open and closing tags.

The tag will create the scrolling area on a seperate line if included in the middle of a paragraph of text.

Remember, this tag is IE only...

It is evil.... :)

Sheesh, have you really never heard of this monstrosity before? To find an example these days, you'd probably need to go visit the Wayback Machine at [*archive.org...]

Copy/paste and take out the * to visit the site. I didn't want to post a live link to these guys, it might encourage them :)

Tedster recently hosted a thread dealing with "Deprecated Tags" that is a valuable read: [webmasterworld.com...]

As stated, <marquee> and <blink> are PROPRIETY tags (MSIE/NETSCAPE) that were never part of the HTML standard.

"Learn to use a <!doctype> and write valid page code: it will serve you best both now, and in the future."

Hey, that's unfair :)
Frames and animated GIFs aren't evil as long as they are used with care and serve a purpose

DrDoc,

Yeah I know ;) but you got to admit the first thing newbies do is to create a framed page with frames, lots of animated gifs and some scrolling text.

Hmm. Hmm Nice! Brings back memories of my very first web page :)
