Printing text in a layer from NN 4.6

Text printed from a layer in NN 4 loses formatting

I realise that problems with CSS for positioning and layers and NN v.4 have been aired, ad infinitum. I have a weird problem with it though. It is important that people can print text off the site I am designing. I also expect to comply with W3C WAI (Accessibility) guidelines so I haven't used tables for layout, just layers and CSS for other formating. One layer is the container for all text on the page which works a dream in IE 4 and higher, however when I try to print a test page from NN 4.6 all the text wraps in a very strange way, and I end up with 4 printed pages (instead of one) where the text has come out in a thin column justified to the left of the layer. The other layers on the page that contain graphics and nav bar don't have a problem, just the text container. I have tried using SPAN and DIV tags interchangeably but there is not difference.

Has anyone experienced this or have suggestions? Should I just use a single cell table instead of the layer? Has anyone used just layers for reasons of the accessibility guidelines?

Questions, questions but I'd be very grateful for any advice before I go completely spare!

I've experienced problems with this before and all I remember is:

a) going completely spare
b) hoping nobody tried to print from NN4

I'm afraid I don't know anything of W3C WAI (Accessibility) guidelines so I may be wrong to suggest that, if you absolutely need people to be able to print from NN4.6 properly, you'll probably be better with tables.
