Hi,

I have just finished my second website using css, html and a bit of scripting by hand and am starting to wonder if i should use an ide.

Is dreamweaver good or does it add unneccesary bloat to code?

What are the pros and cons of using it for full time development?

Thanks for any advice :)

Well, for me I can't stand it, it just makes me slower. But then I'd only ever use it as a text editor - the design mode isn't good enough for the sites I do and I have no need of the publishing stuff as I work in a bigger team. I see it as a tool for intermediates - people who don't want to learn the ins and outs of code but need more than your usual CMS interface.

Cool, thank Robin.

I thought as much. I am using zend studio just as an editor as i prefer to code by hand but one thing that gets to me is positioning. I mean, on one page i've got about 50 objects all positioned with css and each one involves adding a few px, saving then viewing over and over.

Also, if you change the size of a dive or image it throws everything else out and you have to tweak all over again. I just figured that wysiwyg editors would get rid of this but i think the side effects aren't worth it.

Cheers
