Doing a website for a friend at the moment. What he wants is basically a series of JPEGS which he has designed to act as each of the pages. I have told him this is a terrible way to do a website but he seems convinced. Problem is of course - the jpegs look different depending on the size of the screen they are viewed on. Now i know that you can use javascript to show a different image depending on screen resolution, but this will presumably still leave the problem of screen size (eg if i view it at the same resolution on a 17" screen obviously there is a wide border of white space around the jpegs.) Any advice or should I just tell him his options are live with it or go back to the drawing board.

I'm afraid that you're pretty much wasting your time trying to get around the enormous limitations of a page comprising one giant image. There are so many problems with the approach that you will never get a satisfactory result.
Your friend simply needs to get back to the drawing board and learn a little about how a website functions, and hopefully he will realise that his current idea is totally wrong.
