Locally for your own computer? or for all visitors to a given website? Locally, the control is in the Control Panel, under "Sounds and Audio Devices".

But I don't think you can touch this setting from a website. Sounds are part of the OS, set in the registry at: HKeyCurrentUser\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\Explorer\Navigating\.current\.

It is impossible to do this for visitors. Differing underlying operating systems, different browsers, security settings and the lack of a mechanism for doing so are unsurmountable barriers. Even if you could you have no guarantee that the end user even has any speakers, so you can't depend on the behavior for indicating anything important. If you succeed in a limited way (pehaps with ActiveX) most users would consider it an annoyance.

Well, no, it is possible to trigger an embedded sound to be played when a link is clicked ... but this will be in addition to any sounds already generated by the browser/OS.

Regardless, playing sounds like that is a very bad idea as it would be a huge turnoff for the majority of your visitors.
