Opera users get the best deal on MP3s?

Now here's some serious browser sniffing, reported by about.com. Opera users, go get your bargains!

Digital music store, eMusic...offers its best deals to users of the web browser Opera, second best to Internet Explorer, and at the bottom of the heap, Firefox.

If you browse on over to eMusic using Firefox, you'll get an offer for 25 free MP3s during a two-week trial period. Go to the same page with Internet Explorer and you'll get the same offer, but your 25 free MP3s has just been upped to 50. Finally, head over to the same page in Opera, you've just been upped to 100.

It's a very interesting story, but I'm not sure it stands up to the test: I tried various user agent strings (via the Firefox user agent switcher extension) including Firefox, Opera 7.23, IE6 and Safari, and the offer seemed to be almost random: initially 50 downloads for Firefox, 75 for Opera and IE6 and a different offer for Safari. Subsequently refreshing the pages sometimes gave a different offer.

Of course, there could be other issues such as cookies involved in the equation. Has anyone else tried and found any consistency?

Opera Watch are claiming the exact opposite [operawatch.blogspot.com], but then they do on most things :)

No consistency at all here. I just got 90 with Opera (a new number in the mix!) and 50 with Firefox. Looks like someone was jumping to conclusions.
