I would like the site to be fluid but at the same time i would really like it if one column remained the same width all the time. Is leaving the width of the other columns blank my only option? I would like to put a percentage on them but then theres no way to leave the third column fixed, right?

The way to do this is by declaring a small percentage then adding a fixed with graphic within the table element.
This forces a 1% width to a minimum pixel width. This is more useful in other circumstances, but it still validates!
