Someone someplace suggested this was Opera - if so which version? I'd like to personally test this out.
If it's not Opera (which I honestly don't think it is) what is/could it be?

What do you need it for? If it is for testing perposes, you can install a standalone version of IE from version 3 and up. I don't know if I'm allowed to post a URL, but try searching for "standalone internet explorer" on a major search engine.

Huh? I have stand alone IEs 3.0, 4.0, 5.01, 5.5, and of course 6.0.
I'm asking if this is Opera or not...where this is from and what to download to test and confirm it.

Are you talking about a browser string as identified in a stats package? You need to see the exact string from the raw log file - Opera always identifies itself within the string even when masquerading as IE. Otherwise, it is probably a bot.

That is what I have been saying, now is there any way I can single out what bot this is, it's nature, and the intent of it's use?

What's the exact UA?

"IE 5.5 Compatible Browser" was (is?) a bot UA from a Danish adsl/telephone provider. Its IP (217.157.141.#*$!) seems to belong to the same company today. It used to ask for my home pages in 2003. I'd say this bot was a link checker.
