Hi all,

Just thought I'd drop a couple of notes on IE7 - I have been browsing with this now for weeks.

Interface - This is a huge improvement the more I use it the more I like it (allthough it looks like Microsoft have worked from a screen dump of FF)

Tabs - I know these are standard and have been for sometime in FF - but been an all round IE user this new feature is a life saver, I currently use IE6 at work and it curls my toes everytime I have to open a new browser instead of simply adding another tab. I have noticed though the more tabs open page loading suffers - I'm prob being picky can only just notice a difference. Also shortcuts are the same as FF Ctrl+T-New tab, Ctrl+W-Close tab.

Phishing filter - Has anyone had any real benefit from this? I seem to have left the site im viewing before it's even checked it.

Integrated search - Again another common feature with FF but very handy for IE users that haven't had the benefit before. Includes Ask Jeeves, AOL, Google, MSN and yahoo. MSN is set by default but Google shows an annoying box when viewed in IE7 - this is trying to get you to set Google as default.

I think as an all rounder IE7 is catching up in the browsing world - FF may well be ahead but IE is / and allways will be the most common used browser.

I'm really not concerned about the interface enhancements in IE. I just want to see an up-to-date rendering engine available to the majorty of users who won't actively install software. Hopefully this'll happen; their blog entries are certainly suggesting this.

By all means Robin I agree with what you say - I know IE7 has been debated plenty of times but was just giving my thoughts from a users point of view after spending a few weeks with it.

Do you know the kind of improvements they are considering for the rendering engine?

Sorry, don't think I was claiming your thoughts weren't needed :)

Tedster lists the purported IE7 CSS enhancements in this post [webmasterworld.com]...
