Users cannot delete our website from address bar

Several visitors have complained that they can't clear us from IE history

Hi there,

I have received four emails in recent weeks from users who have been unable to clear our URL from their address bar. They said they cleared their history and deleted all cookies, and all URLs but ours were cleared from the address bar. All were using some version of IE Explorer.

Does anyone have any idea what could make this happen? Our site uses PHP, and we place several cookies using the setcookie command. We also use Urchin, which creates cookies of its own. But I don't see why cookies would make a different anyway.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi intrepidbunny,

This is strange! I can't think of anything non-malicious that would do this. How are they trying to clear their history? Are they doing it while they are still on your site? If so, once they navigate away then your site will be in the, newly cleared, history.

Is it the autocomplete history or the URL bar history?

Hey guys. Thanks for the responses.

The users are having problems with the pulldown URL history bar specifically. Apparently they cleared their history and deleted their cache and cookies (using Internet Options), and all URLs but ours went away from the address bar. [The history file itself did clear.]

I have not yet asked the users if they cleared the history *while* they were on our site. I will check on that.

We certainly have not intended to do anything malicious. But if cookies could possibly cause a proble like this this, perhaps it has something to do with the way we set our cookies using PHP.

That seems implausible, though. I did find an article in support.microsoft.com that might be relevant:
