I have been rereading "Brilliant Layout Examples [webmasterworld.com]" thread, just closed by tedster because of its drifting away.

I would like to ask, akin to the original question ("let's show some examples of layouts you think are excellent. Obviously, no self-promotion. ... When you post the site, also say what about the layout strikes you as so good. Hopefully we will all learn a bit.")...

Which content management system would you place in that category of 'brilliantly layout-able'? By that pseudo word I mean: Easy to use and configure, one that produces easily web sites with a good architecture and structure, easy to maintain... modulable...

I hope that you get the idea (spreadfirefox.com is made with Drupal, that's why I created this thread. However I find it a bit too uneasy to structure from an informational point of view :( ).

I would say that you need any content management system which allows complete control over the layout via a comprehensive templating system. There is no "ideal" CMS as every site is so different. For a blog or simple news site, WordPress is very good, Drupal, Mambo and Typo 3 are worthy contenders for more complex needs - and there are a ton of others which are just as good.

Personally, if I am the one managing the site, nothing beats a few PHP includes and a bunch of text files, all controlled by a simple text editor. In knowledgeable hands, that's ultimate control!
