ssi is not behavign correctly

Hi,

Iam a starter with ssi.
I have a webpage <SNIP>

in that i have included the ssi like
<!--#include file="header.txt"-->

in the root directory i have header.txt file
<SNIP>

since iam hosting on free account some other code inserted by netfirms.com was there

does this prevents the ssi from loading. I tested with local pc shtml viewer, iam able to see the ssi there but not when loaded in to the server.

also i tried with
<!--#include virtual="./includes/header.txt"-->

should the execution permision for these files should be x for others also?

i tried that also it doesnt worked?Iam i missing anything here?

Hello Abhisek, and welcome to the forums. Sorry you went so long without a reply.

Are you certain your free host has ssi enabled for you?

What do you see where the "include" line is? Nothing at all means indeed SSI is not enabled or functioning on your server, or you forgot to rename the file with an .shtml extension, which tells the server to parse the file and look for SSI commands. If you see "an error ocurred while processing this directive" you are doing something wrong. You shouldn't need executable perm's on an include file.
