Choose right colors without surprises.

Hi all guys, some days ago I bought my first a new notebook!

In the meanwhile.. I had pratically finished a website for a customer (a template based mainly on two colors), when the idea to try the new site on the notebook (Firefox 1.0 on Linux) come up. At this point the surprise.. the color that on LCD of my workstation was shown as a light pink, on the screen of the notebook resulted in a dirty light white.

I'm not a presentation wizard, so the (silly?) question: is there a way to choose colors for web pages in a safe manner?

A few weeks ago I had the exact same experience with my first laptop.

What improved the color rendering greatly (if you are on windows) is to insert a pure white area (either CSS or picture) into your page and then go to windows Settings > Display > Settings > Advanced > Color and change the setting until the white area shows white and you will find that your other colors will have improved.

However, the colors will remain different from a desktop PC but then every computer will show your page slightly different anyway.

Also it may be a good idea to stick with "web safe colours". They are not really "web safe", but if you are not a colour and design expert you may find good support in using them.
