Now on my original question, and greatly appreciated responses, can I assume that the Google Dance period:
#1 Takes prior Deep Crawl (and some Freshbot) information to determine results after the dance;
#2 Google is 'silent' on our servers (no deep crawls or freshbots) during the dance;
#3 When the dance is over, we can hold our breath and check out our keywords for the adjustments..........
Is that pretty much it?
Thanks,
Steve
Fat Tuesday was last week. Ash Wednesday is today. Then we have:
5th New Year in many Islamic countires
5th Custom Chief's Day in Vanuatu
5th Guam Discovery Day in Guam
5th Missionary Day in French Polynesia
6th Independence Day in Ghana
7th National Youth Day in Fiji
And the 8th is Women's Day in many countries around the world.
My one, only and last post in a 'waiting for Google' thread. Have too much other work to do.
Jim
Based on modern astronomical calculations that happened on the 4th. However, as traditionally this is based on the sighting of the crescent moon, this really has no fixed date. As such, I can't imagine Google having a logo for it. Given how minor the rest of those holidays are, methinks GG jests.
Unless Brett lied.
Obsessed with Google? Never!
Not knowing who Danial Dulitz is rather than asking the obvious simple question I went to Google. With a name like Daniel Dulitz there is no place to hide on Google. ( I should know, my name is even more unique.
Apparently Daniel Dulitz is a software engineer at Google. Interestingly, the other search engine companies send VP's and the like to the search engine conference. Google sends a software engineer?(for all I know he may be the owner and major stockholder and is so self-assured that he needs no title)
In any event, pasted below is a statement from the 2001 Searchday conference.
Now, if we weren't already worried enough about the update we can panic about the possibility that our webhost was temporally unavailable when the big bot stopped by to spider
===========
Daniel Dulitz with Google said that Google's mission is to organize all the information they can find and make it useful to everyone.
Facts about Google:
Google boosts 1.3 billion Web pages now, making it the world's largest search engine.
Google offers 60 interface languages.
Google crawls the Web every 28 days, but it takes a little additional time for pages to appear in the index. It crawls some sites more often.
Google offers PDF searches, an image search in beta, and searches by date.
Interesting Note: Google crawls pages on the Web in order of importance.
Why are sites dropped from Google?
If a page is unreachable when Google's spider tries to crawl it, it will get dropped.
Also, sites can get banned because of "serious" offenses, either detected manually or automatically.
as if update day were a holiday

ROFL. I'll let you know after the update, and I check how well my sites are doing, if it should be dreaded or not. ;) However, I have no objection if the fun logo proclaimed the day of the update "GoogleGuy Day". You sir are publicly under-recognized, and deserve a day dedicated to you.

Dude, I'm in Lansing, MI and the snow is deep here and the temperature 16°F. It may be easier than you think to get my services kissing ass. ;)
