While speaking today, Daniel Dulitz of Google said the update will happen within 48 hrs and that is as specific as he will get.

Tartan, those pages were in the SERPs before the dance and all the way through the dance. Only their positions were changing during the dance.

Well I believe there will probably be some major changes in the rankings/algo. Either that or a very large number of pages added to the index.

Why do I think this? If nothing was going to change, why would the update be late.

You may be right Jeremy... hopefully we're all optimized sufficiently to stay on top.

Now on my original question, and greatly appreciated responses, can I assume that the Google Dance period:

#1 Takes prior Deep Crawl (and some Freshbot) information to determine results after the dance;

#2 Google is 'silent' on our servers (no deep crawls or freshbots) during the dance;

#3 When the dance is over, we can hold our breath and check out our keywords for the adjustments..........

Is that pretty much it?

Fat Tuesday was last week. Ash Wednesday is today. Then we have:

5th New Year in many Islamic countires
5th Custom Chief's Day in Vanuatu
5th Guam Discovery Day in Guam
5th Missionary Day in French Polynesia
6th Independence Day in Ghana
7th National Youth Day in Fiji

And the 8th is Women's Day in many countries around the world.

Based on modern astronomical calculations that happened on the 4th. However, as traditionally this is based on the sighting of the crescent moon, this really has no fixed date. As such, I can't imagine Google having a logo for it. Given how minor the rest of those holidays are, methinks GG jests.

rfgdxm1, I don't think people need to dread this update at all. The crawl was a little late starting this month, and February is a short month. I still think it would be cool if we had a fun logo, as if update day were a holiday though. We could make our own holiday up. :)

Not knowing who Danial Dulitz is rather than asking the obvious simple question I went to Google. With a name like Daniel Dulitz there is no place to hide on Google. ( I should know, my name is even more unique.

Apparently Daniel Dulitz is a software engineer at Google. Interestingly, the other search engine companies send VP's and the like to the search engine conference. Google sends a software engineer?(for all I know he may be the owner and major stockholder and is so self-assured that he needs no title)

In any event, pasted below is a statement from the 2001 Searchday conference.

Facts about Google:

Why are sites dropped from Google?

If a page is unreachable when Google's spider tries to crawl it, it will get dropped.

How about if we have an 'update day' logo only on www2 and www3? That would be cool, and since most of the general public wouldn't see it there'd be no problem right? Also we wouldn't have to keep checking Yahoo backlinks - just wait for the logo to appear - think of the bandwidth savings! ;)

The font used for the Google logo is 'Catull' that has been 3D'd with some graphics program. Unfortunately, we don't have it, but if it's out there, it may be a good starting point.

ROFL. I'll let you know after the update, and I check how well my sites are doing, if it should be dreaded or not. ;) However, I have no objection if the fun logo proclaimed the day of the update "GoogleGuy Day". You sir are publicly under-recognized, and deserve a day dedicated to you.

rfgdxm1.. New york.. I dont think you want to locate here.. had more snow this winter since the late 70's.. its been brutal cold and the pay, well it wouldnt be enticing enough... but you sure do kiss ass pretty well!

I had some pages indexed, that had been uploaded -- and found by freshbot -- AFTER the deepcrawl.

Thanks Troels, That gives me some hope. The fresh bot has been visiting almost daily.
