Wouldn't you think the site would at least crack the first few pages in the SERPs? One of my sites is in this exact category, however we cannot crack the first 10 (thats right, 10) pages in G. Could the SERPs be lagging from the recent update?
I don't know, but it seems wrong that it should be soo hard for such a specific site to succeed--doing everything along G-lines. Oh how I long for the old days. This site would be making a ton :)
Showing well with those allin commands is relatively easy.
We used to look at our spots in the SERP's by doing some of those (exclusive) searches post-Florida (keyword keyword2 -xlasjdjd) and it was very exciting...momentarily.
Then we looked at the real SERP's. :-/
All I'm about to say is: authority status
pretty much explains everything!
Agree with that, and more so if it implies a site out of the sandbox is truly an authority, for it has lasted the time as would an authority.
Hey folks, if not anything else the top allin(whatevers) ranks will tell you when to stop worrying about your onsite optimization and start worrying about building good links.
Best wishes

I guess I get to play stick in the mud all over the place in this thread.
Authority-like score is important if you are the sort of site that is likely to be considered an authority. Yeah, having a high Authority-like score is damn powerful, but a lot of that comes from all the other things that are required to get that high score in the first place.
It certainly does not hurt to do things to raise your authority-like score in most cases, but there are all sorts of other ways to raise your ranking, and it ain't as simple as saying "authority status".
Hey, if authority status is so important, why are there so many complaints about directories and scrapers? Hub-like score seems to be playing a pretty big part too.
There ain't no single easy answer.

Ah, authority site is important to Google, not to me :) and I am complaining too.
Well, if Google has a way around to handle spammy and "fly by night" kinda sites, then I would love to see the end of <few elements of> authority site thing.
