Is Google going to do something drastic? No PR updates in months!

I was wondering what everyone thought about Google with the PR situation.

From my observations, I have not seen the usual PR updates that usually occur. Only Pr's going from PR5, PR6, and PR7's to Zero's. Some coming back and some staying there.

Mind that I am tracking domains that I work with, as well as very popular domains.

I have a domain that had over 11,000 backlinks and a PR8, and the links have dropped to under 1,000 and the PR still remains an 8. It was previously a PR6 before that backlink campaign.

So this leads me to think that something drastic is going to happen and when it hits, it will hit hard on many different sites.

There are already many out there with PR0's and no real answer to why. Usually when you got a PR0, you knew why and it was usually related to spammy, cloaky reasoning. This time around, the question is BIG, and people aren't sure.

Some are relating it to too many backlinks from specific directories saying they may now be categorized as link farms, and then others are simply lost.

I would be interested to hear other people's theory on what is up with the Google PR and what you think may happen in the very near future.

With minimal PR updates for about 3 full months, and many backlink updates, something is bound to happen soon.

It's not a great parallel but before Florida Google was relying absurdly on mere volume of anchor text. Up till today anyway, Google again has been much more geared to sheer volume of anchor text than at any time since Florida. Since volume of anchor text is the ultimate in simplistic algorithm, it makes a bit of sense to see that when the results are in a "holding pattern".

Hopefully (a kinder, gentler, slightly smarter) Florida will appear soon.

There is of course some changes in serps but this just seems sudden because they have updated allinanchor after many days and now adjusted the rankigs accordingly.

Just had on enon commercial niche site, no ad's or anything, that has ranked page one for a year just drop to page 6!
I have not touched the site so something has changed

Concerning the pagerank: I think it is impossible for google to remove the pagerank or not to show the correct pagerank becasue google writes in their guidelines that you should not trade links with bad neighbourhoods (something like this) but without the green pagerank bar it would be impossible to know if this is a good neighbourhood or not. :)

Me too, major serps change for me on a site that has remained rock steady since aug 2003.

Our main site that was hit pretty hard last change seems to come back on terms before the end of August.

yeah - that would mean google might penalize people actively looking to optimize their sites. they would never do that...

This is unique. Google crawled all my PR 0 pages starting at 22/Sep/2004:21:19:07 -0700, using only one unusual IP address 66.249.66.194. Normally this crawl is distributed over multiple IP's in the 64.68.82.... range. A search for this IP only shows one or two results which is also rare.
These pages became PR 0 (were PR 3,4) after my sever was down for 2 succesive crawls in May (up in between 99.9%, just bad luck for these pages)

I'm also seeing the unusual phenomenon of only one IP for Googlebot - with this additional difference: that it is getting /directory (301 status code) and then /directory/ (200) as so many other search engine spiders do, but as Googlebot has not behaved before.

One of my sites was a PR6, in august it dropped to a PR0, and all links were gone in google, I am not grey-barred and google is still spidering my site daily:

As you can see, it has spidered 3.91 gigs this month so far, last month it spidered 4.16 gigs. I don't understand what happened to my PR because if I was banned they wouldn't continue to spider it.

This is just a guess. In August Google did a double crawl, it hit each page of my site twice in one day. This could just be a fast bot, or crawl, kind of check looking for frequently changing pages.
But if for some reason a site's server were down for that day it would appear to be two crawls missed. From the past I know if a page is missed for two Google crawls it will drop out of the index completely until the next crawl. If missed by one crawl a page will be "partially indexed" I call it limbo, only the URL will show in the SERPs no Title or description.
One farfetched possibility is large scale attacks are slowing Google down and Google is simply not completing its crawls in a timely fashion, so pages drop out simply because Google failed to crawl them by some abitrary deadline. For the last few months if you dropped out of the index I believe your pages will be pretty much stuck at PR 0 until Google does something, who knows what?

Site which was removed from Yahoo for complaining about the re-direct cloaking being done by that porn site is still out of Yahoo but traffic from Google is up by about 2500 visitors today over yesterday.

Please forgive me for asking but did you know you can paste this string into the address bar of your browser and see for yourself (click on the link below)? I simply tacked on the http:// to the beginning of your string. An international site (startsiden.no) has a subdomain (google.startsiden.no) dedicated to Google searches.

Click the link and the search your visitor did to find your site will be replicated. Page forward and backwards through the results and you will probably find your website listed in the search results.

Yes I'm also in the uk and have seen massive changes (in the industries I follow) today in google. I'm hoping this is just a temporary flux but I have a sick feeling that these results are here to stay for a while.

I started to see massive changes yesterday. I don't watch serps, but a couple of my major sites seems to have bounced back from a down durring the last major crawl problem. My traffic seems to be double what it was two days ago.

My site has at least 200 legitimate backlinks and it dropped again, at least today. I'm lucky if I maybe get 100 people from google today. 2 months ago, I was getting 3-4000.

I hope they fix me too, I am still showing as a PR-0 for a site that was a PR6, and I am still not showing up in google at all, I was showing for quite a few listings before this happened in august.

Goolge finally hit one of my sites after about 5 weeks. normally I see it daily. It hit my main page last night and I have not seen it since. I thought it was the start of something, apparently not, atleast for my sites. Other wise I see no activity period.
