July Update?

Is it me or does it look like a significant update is going on at google. I am noticing a number of SERP changes for a few of my sites and they've been fluctuating for the past few days.

Anyone else noticing any major changes?

I see definite movement on www2 and www3. However, nothing that looks that earth-shatteringly different on the SERPs I monitor.

I noticed this evening that the number of pages that appear for my site with the "site:www.domain.com" command has dropped pretty dramatically (around 25%), but for the search terms I follow, things seem pretty stable. Some of the rankings did change slightly within the last week.

Their does seem to be some sort of adjustment or shift in data in the serps that I monitor, it is a little more than the usual flux of regular daily updating

One of our sites that was PRO'd, and fell prey to the noTitle/noDesc problem in the June update has come back from nowhere 2-3 days ago.

The site now again follows the usual allinanchor as one would expect, so I expect it to again show PR once the visible update occurs.

It's either an update or Google has relaxed the penalties... we should soon know.

I'm seeing everything right where it's been. Nothing's changed any more than it usually does day to day, not for me anyway.

I see some minor fluctuations in Serp, quite more than normal but not that much. Since Monday my overall traffic seems to increase by 25-30%.

I have seen a number of shuffles with the SERPs as someone else has put it, and yes to repeat what has already been said, a lot more than usual.

One that is interesting to me however is the search for my keyword on google, shows my position to be #2 and a competitor to be #1.

I then select pages from australia only, and my site is #1, whilst the same competitor is #2. (Both sites are also Aussie).

I thought that was strange - I could not think of a reason why the positions would change when selecting worldwide or sites from Australia only. Considering both sites are from Australia. Anyone have any ideas of why this may happen?

I see some changes using tools to check google dance.

Usually I ger different results if I do not choose google.com in english.

I see changes here - www www2 www3 are all showing the same results, but today we are number 1 for our top keyword :)

Haven't seen any so far. But then backlinks are not something that I check really carefully, so my words do not count much here.

But something *is* happening. I see more fundamental changes in my sectors than I have seen for a long time. Nothing dramatic, though.

There are few changes but nothing which could be ascribed as a major update.

I believe this shift started a couple of days ago. Pr on one new page went green and I also noticed a small shift in the serps I watch. I think backlinks are/have been factored but just are not showing yet.

Me too. I have also jumped up about five or six places from page 2 to page one for several keywords.

Incidentally [216.239.59.98...] looks as if it is being fed by a couple of different sets of data as i am seeing new & old results - anyone else see this?

I'm defiantly seeing something strange happen.

My site was around page 22-23 on SERPS for my major keyword, but sometimes didn't appear in a search - considering it was a new page I just thought to be patient and wait.

Around 1-2 months ago I started to dig into my page and begin to optimise for google, my PR got boosted to 5 and I get shallow crawled every day and all changes reflect in googles cache within 1-2 nights. I soon moved to page 18 with solid appearance. This was a good move forward but was expecting more!

When I use "allintext" and "allinachor" for my main keyword I seem to come around #2-4 which would generate 1000's of hits for me, which is a little frustrating - and so I’ve been building backlinks, adding content blah blah on the hope to climb.

THEN... THIS MORNING... I check google and I cant find myself, totally gone for my main keyword. I check my cache and its reverted back to my old "UN OPTIMISED" site. Why it would do this I have no idea and I hope it can be explained by a dance or something of the sort?!?

There are pages on page 10 for my search term which don’t even have any relevance to my keyword - Maybe i can expect a shift upwards after google sorts itself out.

Anyone else noticed effects like this today? Please be a dance!

At least a few sites in my category who have been using blatant spamming tactics have been booted out of the index. That's always a good sign.

Bah, Now my site wont even show up in for my keyword - The cache is back to the latest possible but I can only find my site for daft keywords, like my sites name (Which is very unique).

Wish I knew what was happenign with my site today!

Just wondered if the partially indexed pages for anyone's website from the last update were now showing up like this in Google.

Using "allinurl" then the website name, then clicking on [ More results from www.********.com ]

-Let's us this for an example:

Title: Widget Decor
Description: Widget Decor. ...
www.********.com/Widget_Decor.htm - 17k

So, before the description was not even showing at all and now it is partially showing up - a good sign I think.

I see some pretty big changes for our main keyword. A competitor that has been #1 or #2 for the past few years is completely gone, another top 3 competitor has dropped to the second page and a third lost several spots.

My site is now #1, which is cool with me but I can't imagine why the others have dropped. I see some crappy pages in their place... one is not relevant (similar to searching for "tires" and getting a site that sells hubcaps), one has less than one paragraph of copy on a free directory site and another is a single product affiliate page with 20 words and a link to a major retailer.

I guess this will be good for me as I am now one of the few remaining sites that has much value to offer users searching for this phrase.

One more strange thing I started seeing a few days ago, that seems to have gone even further, is the difference between singular vs. plural. For a couple years these results have been pretty close, now they are drastically different.

I am seeing fluctuation the past 3-4 days specifically for a few different sites. Nothing to major. I am checking simply on Google.com, not on any datacenters.

Does anyone know when past PR updates have occurred? Is someone keeping track somewhere? There used to be a website that kept track of the specific dates when they started.

The big changes I am talking about show at the ip address above and everywhere I check. The competitors' site that is totally gone when searching for "widgets", much to my surprise, is widgets.com

I checked site:www.widgets.com and they only have about 30 of their 100+ pages indexed and only 4 pages have titles and descriptions. I checked their site and don't see any significant changes they have made recently, they don't seem to have done anything wrong.

Normally it wouldn't worry me to see a compeitor lose their ranking and, like I said before, this benefits me greatly, but it is a pretty strange... they are afterall, one of the best sites on the internet for these widgets. I doubt they would have tried any tricks or black/grey hat stuff since they have always been at the top.

Searching with that IP you must have a look at the string: [216.239.59.98...]

search?hl=en

=en is Google in english

If you do not change manually to en, it could be it or de or any local language Google uses. Google uses the language of the country you are searching from.
I note that you can get different results.
