Not sure if this belongs in Link Development, PPC or Google News...

We have just identified a client for whom we do PPC and use unique and specific subdomains for tracking different providers.

The Espotting subdomain has picked PR. Checking backlinks on Google the only things showing up sure enough are Espotting affiliates who publish the PPC listings.

An interesting new way to get PR, though tough on tracking.

Have just checked out another client on Espotting and this gets even more interesting...

there was some kind of mis-hap on the ES listing and the subdomain actually used for the link is different to that which is displayed.

It is the ES specific subdomain that is displayed, and the generic www thats linked to.

however, the ES subdomain has picked up PR.

Now, on the affiliate's page the ES subdom' URL - lets say [espotting.my-clients-website.com...] - is appearing as the anchor text.

It appears that google has spidered this domain despite it not being in the href. I've heard of this happening in a number of cases where there is a full [......] reference on a webpage, but I've not seen it pass PR.

This can obvioulsy have implications.
