Google PR Update

I'm seeing a PR update across some major sites, I'm viewing from Australia, looks like a drop across the board

Definitely updated backlinks on Marcia's datacenter.
I'm showing backlinks which I added last week.
However the overall number of backlinks has decreased and I don't know why. One of my sites which was showing 92 backlinks now shows zero backlinks.
But there are no differences in ranking.

I reckon it's about 1 month since the last PR update which is unusual from the last 2 years experiences.

I am also seeing change in backlinks.

yup, on the DC that marcia noted I just checked 5 sites, all backlinks have gone up for me.

64.233.161.98 is certainly adding many backlinks to several of my sites I've checked so far. It doesn't appear to be tied to PR though.

As for the PR update... April 7 was the last PR update starting from the old CW datacenter (216.239.57.98) although it hasn't been stable. The prior PR was March 16th.

I am seeing more backlinks and PR is up one dot on toolbar on that server. I guess the visible PR/Backlink is updated but my SERPs remains pretty much same since the last PR/BL update two weeks ago.

I checked a new page on my site added 3/30/04. It is still PR0. That page is 3 clicks away from the index page. From this, it seems to me that these frequent updates are rather superficial, and do reflect real deep crawls...

DMOZ is back down to 9, so a lot of the PR boost from the last update seems to have been reversed.

Yes, I lost a few and gaind a few...

I think Google is trying to remove backlinks if they are related/redundant backlinks.

Also, I am not seeing any single backlink from "Links" pages. (such as link.htm, links.asp, link.php, etc.)

I used to have dozens from those pages that have similar audiences.

I see fewer backlinks for both of my main pages. But, it helps me to remember that the link command just shows "a sample" of the backlinks for a certain page. Not considered the full list.

What I've been seeing over the past many months is that one month my listed backlinks go way up and the next month they go way down - rinse and repeat.

And the number of backlinks that the link command shows does not seem to have much relation to where my pages are in the SERPs or how much traffic I get.

I do think that the number of quality backlinks that my pages actually have makes a difference in ranking in SERPs - but that's something else entirely.

definitely a PR update, man these things are happinging sooner and sooner, what 10 maybe 15 days. i think also that link pages are being accounted for less and less, start changing those page names from link.asp to something else:)

i have a theory here, (just a theory) but, i noticed pagerank go up on some sites, but i see a pattern. sites with a links.blah page has been disregarded now. for example our company has 1 site with a PR of 6, its had this PR for over a year, well the links.htm page has always been a 5, because of outgoing links. well, after this update last night, the page rank went up to a 6 on this links page. this tells me that the outgoing links of the links.htm page are no longer distributing page rank. i think google just ran an update getting rid of links pages, thus making lots of PR within sites to change, also killing backlinks. anyone have any ideas on this. :)

Yup gained 1 extra pr for my main site on the DC mentioned by Marcia, what is nice to see is that a couple of sites I launched at the end of March have gone straight in with a PR4 on their front page, nothing for the internal pages yet though. Oh and DMOZ showing as a 9 for me.

It's more likely that your site overall has gained PR and that's why your links page has gone from 5 to 6. Your links do not reduce the PR of the page.

For the worse unfortunately. 104 links have shrunk to 57. Discouraging after it took google the best part of a year to recognise I had any backlinks at all. Rankings seem unchanged though. They didnt change for me after the last PR update either.

Unless I am being stupid and that IP used to have a higher PR.

:) I've seen PR bounce all around for the past few days. For isntance my guys in the office say loook were PRX and i pull up and we're not. Seems Ive been getting a mix of pr servers.

Using the Marcia IP I see far fewer links for my sites in backlinks. I figure nothing is done updating because I know bajillions are out there ;)

On closer examination I seem to have suffered far less than my competitors - some of whom have dropped from 300-400 backlinks to only 3 or 4 backlinks. Google does seem to have removed a lot of obvious reciprocal links. I'll be very interested to see how this affects PR and backlinks.

Did someone say that you can check your PR on the different datacentres? How is that possible?

We can use the other datacentres to measure backlinks but how can you see PR?

I have 25 backlinks in 64.233.161.98 and only 3 backlinks in www.google.com. Can anyone comment on this?

Sure, you have 25 backlinks in 64.233.161.98 and only 3 backlinks in www.google.com because the update hasnt finished yet. Give it several hours if not a day plus before it settles down.

Very true. Seems like a long time since I saw any changes in the serps for the phrases that I monitor. Will be interesting to see an update based on these new backlinks.

Don't think reciprocal links have suffered particularily. Mine seem to have held up well on solid related websites with few links.
