What exactly is a toolbar referral?

Hits with toolbar.google.com as the referrer

Hey folks,

I've gotten probably a hundred hits this month from:

[toolbar.google.com...]

I was just wondering if anybody knows what this is and what causes it. It doesn't worry me or anything, I'm just curious :) Thanks.

I believe it's when someone searches on Google from within the Google Toolbar, and clicks on your paid result. No different that AdWords on Google.com - the search is just happening directly in the toolbar and not on a web page.

It could possibly be when someone searches from the toolbar, but I don't participate in the AdWords program so I don't think that part is correct.

I *think* this happens when someone types in your address into the toolbar instead of the address bar.

Ally_Cat right, just did some testing, and if you hit I'm feeling lucky you get http://toolbar.google.com/ as a referral.
