I recently finished my first ever site and submitted to a 600,000 odd search engines using addweb pro 6.5

A week ago (approximately 1mth after the site was finished) I found the site to be ranking really well on Google web and UK as was the related site of a friend whom I had helped and traded reciprocal links with.

I was running regular ranking reports in addweb, and suddenly noticed that 2 days later I was wiped out. I now do not rank at all and appear to have been cleaned out of google. Interestingly, so has my friend who was submitted on the same day, and who I linked to.

I have not used any hidden text, my meta tags are all right, my index page is rich in text and keywords, I have followed lots of general tips on this site, so I don't get why I might have been wiped out. The only thing I can think of is that my HTML doesnt validate perfectly, but I didn't think this would effect it...

Can anyone suggest what I have done, or what I can do to fix the problem? I have emailed google a few days ago, but got no response.

Many thanks for any assistance..

>>running regular ranking reports

Bingo! That's in violation of Google's Terms of Service. That could be it.

larpo,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

I've used AddWeb for years and didn't have any problems, although I hated their reports design so I stopped. (they're virtually unprintable for clients). I have not personally seen any problems with being banned on any sites from Google as a result, but apparently Marcia (and I have heard rumors of others) that have.

As I recall, AddWeb usually defaults to 50 results. Google has not been overly generous to new sites - regardless of the number of quality backlinks.

First, I would make sure you are completely out of the index before you get too worried.

Go to your website first, then load Google/100 and your primary keyword:
[google.com...]

As far as "HTML doesnt validate perfectly," there is so much garbage out there that rates highly in the SERPS, I seriously doubt that is your problem either.

If it is completely gone after previously being in the index, its time to worry. If it has lost several pages in the SERPS, I would just be patient. Some of my newer sites within the past 2 months go from page 1 - to page 12 from day to day. Its discouraging, but Google is in the process of playing with its algo, and apparently doesn't know what to do with new sites yet.

And BTW, I recommend that you don't make a habit of sending your site out to "600,000 odd search engines!" There's only a handful that will do you any good, and I hope you didn't use your primary email for the return address.....

I am having a similar problem.

A new site is coming and going from the SERPs. When it is there, it does great.

It's always there if I search www-fi.google.com, and often not there is I check www.google.com

Been like this for quite some time now.

What's up with that?

It's perfectly normal for brand new sites to appear and disappear sporadically. And it can go on for several weeks. Consecutive searches mean nothing, it can mean hitting one data center or another.

Sites have been added and then completely disappearing for a bit. Not to worry, just go on as normal. That is NOT the same thing as getting caught using automated tools.

hmmm...

I dont appear anywhere on [google.com...] or using www-fi.google.com anymore. Looks I have been completely cleared out.

It's just weird that so has my friend. Whose site was completed, submitted and got spidered and indexed at about the same time. He did use hidden text until I told him to remove it... but now his site is clean...

I have only run the ranking tool about 5 times. Would this be enough to piss them off?

I'm a little concerned. Is it possible to be penalised so quickly?

I wouldn't worry at this point in time. Again, it's normal for newer sites to disappear and then come back.

we have the same problem with a new site.

There is a unique keyword that nobody else has. Five pages on our site came up in SERPS for that keyword a month ago. Then Google said zero results for that keyword. It's been coming and going now for a few weeks. When it's there we get good traffic.

Googlebot does visit us daily. We have 4 inward links from PR5-6 pages and that's it. No FFAs, no spam, no addweb or other automated program, not even an ODP submission, nothing.

But the problem doesn't relate to just that keyword. One day a Google search will show that they have 30 pages of our site indexed. The next day it shows just two.

Marcia, how long is normal for this game of hide and seek? Any idea?

Marcia is absolutely right - quite normal and don't worry about it. You got the bonus of a fresh listing without actually being in the index proper. Consider it a lucky bonus.

It can carry on for a while - the best way to speed up getting in googles index is to get as many inbound links as possible, from quality on topic websites.

Expect it to be intermittent for up to 2-3 months, that way you can't be dissappointed.

I've got the same thing happened to a site I submitted to the major engines/directories three weeks ago. The site has been up for about a year but I read up on SEO and did the site again with a view to getting highly ranked. Last night I was delighted to get to number 2 on yahoo and google with my two word keyphrase. I decided to optimise for a couple more key phrases and re-uploaded. Now when I checked where I am with a position tool on another website it says I cannot be found on google and yahoo. What's going on? Have I been binned? Could I have inadvertently spammed?
I also read that naming your folders with keywords will help your ranking on google, which I did. Is this true or is it spamming?

Same problem here, but I added a few more links to the site and submitted the changed pages. Hopefully it will pop back in soon.

There is _nothing_ to worry about.
This is just the EverFlux effect.

Just be patient.

BTW: Don't submit your site to 6e5 SEs :)

Last week I submitted the URL for my new blog.

In Friday it got spidered and appeared in SERPs

On Monday it no longer appeared in SERPs.

Where did it go?

I have links to it from other pages too.

(400 people visited my blog in the last week. It's the most successful web page I ever put up. I wish I could get people to visit the site that's suppose to make me money.)

larpo ... My site has been up for several months and I still have a PR0 and just recently lost the 27 backlinks that google had reported.

On Monday I used AddWeb to submit to the same 600,000 directories (?) I'm sure you did.

I'll sticky you my url and possibly you can do the same. It would be a great chance to compare the AdWeb results, if any :)

No worries even the best of us see our sites come and go especially when they are new. I see this with the majority of my sites that are new and submitted. Within 3 month period I see them in there really well without the disapearance anymmore.

Hopefully the rolling updates will reduce or eliminate a 3 month solidifying process.

If my site was PR2 on the first day it was listed and the next day it was not listed at all, how long is it likely to be before it appears again?

Is it good practice to name files and folders using two word key phrases ie: www.website.com/keyword-keyword-images etc. or www.website.com/keyword-keyword-pages/keyword.html?

Are you sure your site was a PR2 the first day? One component in calculating PR is inbound links and the bot wouldn't have that info except maybe for the one it used to find you. Your pages will probably reappear after the bot comes back and indexes them again. I'm not sure how they view multiple keywords in the url. After two, it's kinda looks spammy to me. So, I always limit mine to one or two in the file name only. It works fine.

The general consensus then appears to be that this is nothing to worry about and should settle down in due course.

That makes me feel a great deal better.

Is it generally the case that use of automated programs like AddWeb and Search Engine Commando are a bad idea? They do seem to take a great deal of the effort out of things, but I have noticed that the AddWeb ranking module is highly innaccurate...

After dropping out of the SERPs, I discover today that I'm back in, and the cache shows that Google spidered my page again yesterday (Wednesday).

Glad to be getting some loving, once again, from Google.

Now, when will Google update my PageRank?

You're going to find that everything is unstable at first. Keep working on what you can -- your website. Add content, and find people to link to you. In about 3-6 months, you'll see your site becoming a lot more stable in the SERPs. Don't sweat the small stuff, it'll only give you gray hairs :)

True enough, my site is now back at the top of the rankings! Thanks for the tips guys.

larpo, but it will be gone again tomorrow or the day after. Just like mine. Hopefully six months will pass quickly. Oh, the pain of waiting!

The site was defnetely at no.2 when I looked a couple of days ago. From what I've read here, it looks like I'll just have to wait. In the meantime I've changed my file and folder names, removing the key-phrases.

We've had several sites that didn't receive any PR, but did pretty good in SERPs for competitive keywords.
After about 2-3 months our PR was showing but the positions were about the same.

Conclusion: you'd have to wait for a couple of months to see your PR, but it won't affect your position in the SERPs.

Maybe interesting [webmasterworld.com]?

In about 3-6 months, you'll see your site becoming a lot more stable in the SERPs.

The sites outlined in that message are stable and doing real well.

My site is back up. Thanks to all. First page for all key phrases. Not a very competitive area, but all the same I'm delighted. No doubt it will disappear again but at least I'll know what's going on.

Thanks again.
