Zero Backlinks when I should have 300+ Links .with PR4

I have worked very hard at building links for my client for the past 6 to 8 months. When I do a search at Google for www.myclient.com, I get over 1,200 indexed results. However when I do a search for backlinks in Google using
"link:http://www.myclient.com", I get zero backlinks.

I know 300+ links of the 1,200 should have been counted as
backlinks. In fact, these same links are counted as backlinks for my competitors.

I have contacted Google but they haven't been able to help. I am completely stumped. Please help.
