keyword "the" shows 5.2 billon results

Has anyone noticed that major keywords like "the" show huge results, well over the 3.3 billion stated by Google?

I suspect that this count is including multiple iterations of the word on a single page. I suspect. Not sure.

Ya, "http" was showing 90billion last month at one point.

Google's count is currently off. I noticed in site: searches that it is returning not only the host.com/directory/path/ but also the host.com/directory/path without the trailing slash which is 301ed to the one with the trailing /

It is giving me about 70% more pages than I have.

I do the same with my niche search engines. If someone uses my say Porsche related search engine to search for "Porsche", it returns something like 30 bio results found for Porsche ... you can only respond to this kind of queries with some fun, imho.

btw: your question could be misinterpreted - not only spammers are using the noun "the". ;)

What's is the best way to get your markets most popular keyword to the top without paying for it?

If I can get this keyword top 10 or 1st page on google or any of these popular search engines I know things will improve for my online business.

Joe, i fear there's no perfect answer to your question. It depends on so much things ...

- Number of Competitors (results at google for "Keyword")
- Quality of the Competitors (Optimized pages or not etc).
- Commercial Value of the Keyword (this often answers the question at the beginning of a project)
- Your Content related to the Keyword

... etc. etc.

Possible that you need nothing but a one page site and three weeks patience.
Possible that you can't afford the work / costs to accomplish getting #1 for a word.

One never knows ...
