HellO!
Interesting note.. Amount of search results has increased seriously - some of my target phrases have doubled , some have moved from 4 000 000 to 7 000 000 results.
Any logical explanation?

Thanks!

I'm seeing the same thing, where some search phrases are double and triple what they were. I suspect for some it may be that more dynamic pages are getting in.

There is something very wrong going on here.

When I do a site:www.mydomain.com search, the figures are way off.

eg for one of my sites which I know has only 4000 pages, Google is showing over 6000 pages present.

This overestimation occurs on three of my larger sites - all static html, all showing between 30-50% more pages than actually exist.

Either they have problems, or, heaven forbid, there is some cooking of the books.

Not good

Yes it seems search result numbers have increased well beyond the approx. 10% they posted for the total index on the google home page.

<<Added>> In this thread: [webmasterworld.com...] Getafix shows the 5,210,000,000 size for a search of "the".

Resourceshelf [resourceshelf.com] posted on more of Google's search result number inconsistencies, certainly when doing more advanced site: exclude stuff.

A public relations game to compete with other search engines? ;)
