Did Gs News service get a new algo?

I use Gs news service daily for a searches on a fixed set of keywords. I've been doing this since they launched the News section. While somedays are better than others, its not uncommon to find only a few results for the current day - or none.

This morning, however, nearly everyone of the kw phrases I tend to find more results with are now showing me MANY more results. And rather than being 22hours old are only 3 hours old (I always sort by date).

So this lead me to wonder - has Google updated their News algo, is this an anomaly, or what?

haven't noticed a defined change.

I also look for the same things most every day. I do notice that there are suspiciously long spells without any reporting on the subject, then a fluster of stories all within the same week, often without any event to spur it.

make me more curious about the coordinated 'free' press more than the algo behind google news though.

I just wish they'd get rid of all the duplicate content when you do a 'by date' query.

Perhaps it wasn't anything more than an anomaly but it sure was curious. I've never seen that much news on so many of the kw phrases!

Re: duplicates - I wonder if for news wire releases like Reuters and AP they will eventually just take them from the source and filter out the repeats. That would help. Same for US Government press releases.

It may have gotten a new algo, and it is all kinds of messed up. Suddenly I am getting stories on the front page from March 4, July 11, etc. It was great how timely it was, but now it is all kinds of weird.
