Redirect for main domain bad?

For example, bluewidgets.com to blue-widgets.com...

I am about to start a new site on a domain like allthebluewidgets.com. It would be marketed by that name. For search engine sake, I am thinking it should redirect all requests to all-the-blue-widgets.com, so the words are split out.

Is this a good idea? Why or why not? Will Google track (and count links) as being to all-the-blue-widgets.com even if the link is coded to allthebluewidgets.com?

I am most concerned about links to the allthebluewidgets.com not being counted because of the redirect.

Thanks,
