Hosting Problems and The Google Crawl

How long can you get away with a server crash?

I guess like most people, my ultimate nightmare is for my prime site to be down for a prolonged period. I'm living that nightmare at present, having been gone for 24 hours. I've finally managed to repoint the DNS, so it will be gone for another 24!

I have that mixture of feeling helpless, frustrated and very very angry all at once. If I wasn't so macho I'd cry (well ok, I feel like crying anyway!).

Back to the point. How long before I get a Google hit?

I know from experience that you can usually ride 24 hours (this is a PR6 site). GoogleGuy has confirmed previously that Googlebot does tolerate this and will return at some stage to pick up the contents.

Has anyone stretched this recently? Any recent experiences or stats at all on tolerance and timescale? Is GG about to assist?

Obviously this is difficult for an individual webmaster to establish... your site is down so you can't be sure exactly when Google called and how often. However, it is possible to get an idea by checking fresh labels on other sites in the neighbourhood.

Any input from you guys would, I think, be useful to many people, and might just help stop me crying. On the other hand....
